Awareness Campaign

Our awareness campaigns are at the heart of SMHSO’s mission to change how mental health is understood and addressed.
We actively engage with the public through diverse outreach initiatives. This includes participating in community events both in Somaliland and the UK, where we set up informational booths at fairs and present seminars to disseminate mental health knowledge effectively. Our team also conducts visits to universities and schools across Somaliland, aiming to educate youth from an early age. By equipping the next generation with knowledge, empathy, and resilience, we foster a supportive environment that encourages open discussions about mental health.
We aim for these campaigns to spark widespread understanding of the importance of mental health, encouraging open conversations and shifting attitudes across communities. By making mental health a visible and relatable topic, we hope to empower individuals to seek help, support one another, and recognize that mental well-being is just as vital as physical health.

SMHSO regularly recruits dedicated volunteers & university social-work students both in Somaliland & the UK to support these awareness initiatives.

If you’re passionate about mental health and wish to contribute to our mission, contact us here to become part of our growing team.

Our strategy is founded on the belief that mental health support should be accessible to everyone in Somaliland without any stigma or restrictions. Ultimately to create a kinder, healthier, more productive Somaliland.

Furthermore, the organisation collaborates with local healthcare providers to ensure that patients receive comprehensive care, which may include medication management, psychotherapy, and rehabilitation services.

SMHSO also focuses on capacity building and training for mental health professionals in Somaliland. They organise training programmes and workshops to enhance the skills of local psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other mental health practitioners. By improving the professional capabilities of these individuals, SMHSO aims to create a sustainable and effective mental health care system in the region. This training also extends to community health workers, enabling them to recognise and respond to mental health issues within their communities, thus bridging the gap between primary healthcare and specialised mental health services.

Dedicated to Mental Health, Committed to Change

At SMHSO, we work tirelessly to improve mental health services in Somaliland. Through direct support, awareness campaigns, and professional training, we aim to create a future where mental health care is accessible to all.

We provide direct assistance to individuals and families affected by mental health conditions, ensuring they receive compassionate care and the resources they need.

Through education campaigns, workshops, and outreach programmes, we challenge stigma and raise awareness about mental health across Somaliland.

We equip local mental health professionals and community health workers with the skills they need to provide effective, sustainable care for years to come.
