On the 29th day of Ramadan, the Somaliland Mental Health Support Organization donated $800 in Zakat Al-Fitr. This amount was collected from the people of UK who generously spent in support of 60 mentally ill patients in Boroma, Somaliland and their families.
Zakat Al-Fitr is a required amount of money that is paid at the conclusion of the month of Ramadan as a gesture of thankfulness to God for having enabling us to observe our fasts during the blessed month. One of its main purposes is to help those in the community who are poor and needy.
The Boroma community greatly appreciated the efforts of those who donated, as stated by Dr. Abdirahmaan Gur Guurte, the head psychiatric doctor at the main hospital in Borama. Dr. Gur Guurte further explained how many families have approximately 3-4 members who are suffering from mental illnesses.
Unfortunately, since there is a shortage in medication many of these individuals fail to receive the care that they need. For this reason, the community not only encourages the public to continue their hard work towards helping those in need but they requested from the public to keep the mentally ill in their prayers along with their families who have been facing much difficulty.
